Men’s Lacrosse Rolls in Season Opener Against Castleton

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. (3/9/19)- Jake Frankovits, Mike Snellen and Tyler Roberto all collected hat-tricks as the Kean University men's lacrosse team rolled to a 14-5 victory over Castleton University at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts on Saturday afternoon.  The Cougars improve to 1-0 overall, while the Spartans fall to 0-1 overall.

Frankovits collected five points on three goals and two assists as the Cougars tallied 11 goals on 42 shots in the opening stanza. Connor Baucom won 13 of Kean's 14 faceoffs, including seven groundballs in the process.

In addition, Snellen, Alex Hufford and Roberto each tallied two goals apiece as the Cougars took the 11-3 advantage into the locker room.

Kean took their foot off the gas in the second half as the Cougars scored just three goals in route to the nine-goal victory.  Snellen and Roberto each added a goal to complete their hat-tricks in the low scoring second half.

Kean recorded 65 shots and tallied 42 groundballs in the process.

Jack Bushey added two goals and two assists, while Baucom finished 15-for-17 on faceoffs with eight groundballs. On the defensive end, Matt Palmieri totaled five groundballs and three caused turnovers, while Greg Castor tallied three caused turnovers and a groundball. Tyler Foss collected four groundballs, while Matt Tanis scooped up three.

Thomas Francy improved to 1-0 in the cage with two saves in 45:00 minutes of work.

Head Coach Shelley Sheiner and the Cougars will return to action in Memphis, TN on Wednesday, Mar. 13th, against the Lynx of Rhodes College at 7:00 p.m.
