MADISON, N.J. (3/20/19) – Mike Snellen netted five goals including posting a hat-trick in the final seven minutes as the Kean University men's lacrosse team made a late run to defeat FDU-Florham, 14-9 on Wednesday evening.
Snellen totaled seven points on five goals and two assists for the Cougars who improve to 3-1 overall. Zane Johnston and Michael Warg both tallied hat-tricks for the Devils who fall to 3-2 overall.
Kean held a 9-2 lead late in the first half on two goals apiece from Snellen, Tyler Roberto, Jake Frankovits, and Daniel Lee. FDU responded with seven straight goals to erase the Cougars 9-3 halftime lead and even everything at 9-9 with 11:51 remaining in the fourth.
Kean closed the game with five straight scores that included three unassisted goals from Snellen and one from both Lee and Cole Blackley.
Frankovits and Lee both completed hat-tricks, while Roberto added two goals and two assists. Connor Baucom went 14-for-20 on faceoffs with six groundballs. Defensively, Matt Palmieri totaled eight groundballs and two caused turnovers, while Nick Moffa, Jack Bushey and Snellen each collected four groundballs apiece. Matt Tanis totaled five groundballs, while Roberto tallied three caused turnovers and Blackley added two.
Ryan Sieb improved to 1-0 in goal with 10 saves.
Head Coach Shelley Sheiner and the Cougars will return to action on Saturday, Mar. 23rd, hosting the Red Dragons of SUNY Oneonta in their home opener at 2:00 p.m.
