UNION, N.J. (Mar. 23, 2019) – Mike Snellen and Daniel Lee both netted hat-tricks as the Kean University men's lacrosse team dropped a non-conference contest to SUNY Oneonta, 11-9 in their home opener on Saturday afternoon.
Stephen Panno and Thomas Moore each tallied hat-tricks for the Red Dragons who improve to 4-5 overall. Snellen finished with four points on three goals and one assist for the Cougars who fall to 3-2 overall.
Lee and Snellen scored all three Cougar goals in the first quarter as Kean held the 3-1 advantage after the first 15 minutes of action. Oneonta pumped in seven goals in the second quarter to take an 8-5 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Kean opened the second half with a Cole Blackley man-up goal, but still trailed 8-6 with just under five minutes to play in the third. The Red Dragons attempted to pull away with three goals in less than two minutes for the 11-6 advantage entering the fourth.
In the fourth, Lee and Snellen would both complete their hat-tricks while Greg Castor scored his first career goal, but Kean just ran out of time by being held scoreless in the final three minutes of the contest
Justin Arredondo added a goal, while Jack Bushey and Tyler Roberto were credited with assists. Connor Baucom went 17-for-23 on faceoffs with 11 groundballs, while Snellen collected four groundballs. Matt Palmieri totaled five groundballs and one caused turnover, while Blackley added five groundballs and a caused turnover. Matt Tanis finished with four groundballs and a caused turnover, while both Bushey and Lee collected three groundballs.
Ryan Sieb made seven saves in 60 minutes of work in the net.
Head Coach Shelley Sheiner and the Cougars will return to action in Patchogue, N.Y. on Tuesday, Mar. 26th, against the Golden Eagles of St. Joseph's College (L.I.) at 5:30 p.m.
