UNION, N.J. (4/1/19) – A golden goal with 2:22 remaining in overtime sunk the Kean University men's lacrosse team, 9-8, against Moravian College on Monday evening.
Cade Siddron collected a hat-trick for the Greyhounds who improve to 7-3 overall. Mike Snellen and Jake Frankovits both tallied three points on two goals and one assist for the Cougars who fall to 5-3 overall.
Kean scored four unanswered goals, after falling behind 2-0 in the opening quarter, to take a 4-2 lead into halftime. The Greyhounds started the second half with three straight goals before Cole Blackley notched one of his two goals to even everything at 5-5 with 1:59 remaining in the third.
After trading goals with Moravian late into the fourth, Snellen wrapped around the goal and ripped a diving shot, which whizzed pass the goalie with just six seconds remaining and forced the first overtime game of the season.
In overtime, the Greyhounds struck first with a score by Dominick Gurreri.
Alex Hufford and Tyler Roberto each tallied a goal, while Justin Arredondo and Kyle Ryder both collected an assist. Defensively, Matt Palmieri totaled six groundballs and two caused turnovers, while Greg Castor finished with three caused turnovers and two groundballs. Matt Tanis totaled six groundballs and two caused turnovers, while Thomas Francy made 18 saves and collected six groundballs. Nick Moffa went 10-for-17 on faceoffs with five groundballs.
Head Coach Shelley Sheiner and the Cougars will return to action in Galloway, N.J. on Wednesday, Apr. 3rd, against the Ospreys of Stockton University for their Colonial States Athletic Conference opener beginning at 7:00 p.m.
