Men’s Lacrosse Drops First Ever CSAC Contest to Stockton

GALLOWAY, N.J. (4/3/19) – Mike Snellen and Tyler Roberto combined for seven goals as the Kean University men's lacrosse team dropped their first ever Colonial States Athletic Conference contest to Stockton University, 14-12 on Wednesday evening.

Dante Poli totaled five points on four goals and one assist for the Ospreys who improve to 9-2 overall and 1-0 in the CSAC. Snellen totaled six points on four goals and two assists for the Cougars who fall to 5-4 overall and 0-1 in the CSAC.

Poli helped Stockton to a 3-0 lead before goals by Snellen, Roberto and Nick Moffa had everything tied at 3-3 after 15 minutes of action. The Ospreys added another six goals in the second half to take a 9-3 lead into halftime.

In the third, Cole Blackley assisted on both goals in the quarter as the Cougars still trailed 11-5 entering the fourth. In the fourth, Kean scored seven goals including two from Snellen and Roberto as the Cougars nearly erased the Ospreys lead. After scoring three straight goals to cut the deficit down to 12-8, Stockton netted their first goal of the fourth and led 12-8 with 6:16 remaining. Kean responded with four unanswered goals over a 2:30 span to pull to within one at 13-12 on the first career goal from Jonathan Duffy.

The Cougars had another chance to tie the game but Roberto was stonewalled by Justin Ruiz. Stockton took possession and scored as time expired.

Alex Hufford netted a goal and an assist, while Blackley scored a goal. Moffa scored two goals and went 18-for-28 on faceoffs with nine groundballs. Matt Palmieri totaled five groundballs and three caused turnovers, while Matt Tanis added three groundballs and one caused turnover.

Thomas Francy and Ryan Sieb combined for 15 saves with Francy taking the loss.

Head Coach Shelley Sheiner and the Cougars will return to action on Saturday, Apr. 6th, hosting the Lions of Bryn Athyn College at 1:00 p.m.
