Early Goal Keeps Men’s Soccer Unbeaten with Victory over Old Westbury

UNION, N.J. (9/4/18)- Felipe Lucas notched his first collegiate goal and collected the game-winner as the Kean University men's soccer team remained undefeated with a 1-0 shutout of SUNY Old Westbury on Tuesday evening.  

Danny Guillen tallied an assist for the Cougars who improve to 2-0 overall. Edens Avril recorded three shots for the Panthers who fall to 0-3 overall.

The Cougars attacked the Panthers defense early as Guillen played a cross to Lucas, who controlled the ball and tapped it past the keeper for the 1-0 lead in the 16th minute.

Kean continued to pepper shots all evening, totaling 23 overall and six on goal. The Cougars defense held Old Westbury to just 11 shots, including four on frame.

Lucas totaled five shots, while Damjan Agaj recorded four. Alex Nicol, Geovanny Luna, and Jake Santos all tallied three shots apiece. Derek Phells improved to 2-0 in goal and tallied his second shutout this season.

Head Coach Peter-John Falloon and the Cougars will return to action in Alfred, N.Y. on Saturday, Sept. 8th against the Saxons of Alfred University at 3:30 p.m.
