Men's Volleyball Falls to Stevenson

UNION, N.J. (2/21/11) – Sophomore Steve Vahalla (pictured left) had match-highs of 18 kills and 11 digs, however the Kean University men's volleyball team fell to Stevenson University, 3-1, in North East Collegiate Volleyball Association-Metro action on Monday afternoon.

After the Cougars (5-10, 2-4 NECVA-Metro) won the first set, Stevenson (15-2, 6-2 NECVA-Metro) won the final three games for the four-set victory (19-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-20).

For the Mustangs, rookies Jon Martin and Kalani Soeda combined for 27 kills, 14 digs and six total blocks, as Soeda had 13 kills, eight digs, five assisted blocks and one solo block.  Martin chipped in with a team-high 14 kills, six digs and five assisted blocks and sophomore setter Kyle Diller dished out 37 assists in the victory.

Kean freshman Christian Portera had nine kills and six digs and junior setter Sam Haimann added 38 assists, three kills and four assisted blocks. 

The Cougars return to action on Thursday, February 24, when they host NECVA Metro-leader Philadelphia Biblical University at 7:30 p.m.
