Men’s Volleyball Drops Pair Against Two Ranked Opponents

HUNTINGDON, Pa. (1/25/14) – The No. 13 Kean University men's volleyball team fell to a pair of ranked teams in the final day of the Juniata Invitational on Saturday. The Cougars dropped a tough 3-2 matchup with No. 14 Elmira College before falling to undefeated host No. 3 Juniata 3-0 in the nightcap.

Kean's matchup with the Soaring Eagles was tight; after splitting the first four sets Elmira had scored just one more point than the Cougars. Bez Arslani had 21 kills in the match, the best total of any player for either side.

In the fifth set, the Cougars never go on track and bowed out 15-11 in the rubber frame.

Against Juniata, Kean put up a good fight in set one, losing by the minimum two points in the opener. Again, Arslani led the way for KU. He had seven kills, and Ed Jedziniak and John Cunningham had six apiece. Ron Dunn finished with 23 assists.

Ultimately, Juniata won the next two by identical 25-20 finals.

Juniata is 5-0 on the year, while Elmira is 1-1, with the loss coming to their hosts earlier in the tournament. Kean is 1-3 , with the three losses coming against the two ranked teams and Division I Rutgers-Newark.

The Cougars will return home for a 7 p.m. matchup on Friday with Emerson College at harwood Arena.
