No. 1 Men’s Volleyball Runs Unbeaten Streak to 12 Sets

NEW YORK, N.Y. (2/25/15) – In its first match as the No. 1 team in the nation, the Kean University men's volleyball team weathered a spunky York (N.Y.) College team 29-27 in the first set and went on to cruise to victory in the next two.

The Cougars are still undefeated at 14-0, while York sank to 5-12 on the year after the non-conference match.

The Cardinals had a 24-20 lead in the first set, until Kyle Farley's kill sparked a Cougar rally in a nick of time. Two York errors and another kill by Farley got Kean to 24-24. The Cougars still had to fend off two set points (six in all), but Bill Fischer got a kill to take a 28-27 lead and then fired off an ace on the next point to steal the win.

Kean had little trouble in the next two sets, winning handily 25-16 and 25-12. Farley, Andrew Bliss (pictured left) and Shady Taylor all led the team with five kills each, and the Cougars' attack percentage rose steadily, from .026 to .217 and finally to .444 in the third.

Ron Dunn had 15 assists, and Kean hit a whopping 10 aces in the match with two apiece coming from Connor Evans, Fischer, Taylor and Ed Jedziniak.

Jedziniak also led the team with eight digs.

Randy Adams had seven kills for York.

Kean will return for what is already its penultimate regular season home date at Harwood Arena, a Skyline Tri-match against New Jersey City University and the Sage Colleges on Saturday.
