UNION, N.J. (1/27/18)- Dylan Flor totaled 11 kills as the Kean University men's volleyball team defeated Elms College, 3-1 (25-22, 22-25, 25-22, 26-24) in their final match in the Clash at Kean on Saturday afternoon.
Jared Warner added nine kills, five digs and four blocks assists for the Cougars who improve to 5-1 overall. Martin Acevedo totaled a match-high 17 kills for the Blazers who fall to 5-2 overall.
Kean took the first and third sets with identical 25-22 scores but fell in the second set by the same 25-22 score. The Cougars posted a .200 hitting percentage in both the first and third sets while holding the Blazers to a .080 and .071 hitting percentage in the same sets.
In the fourth set, Kean totaled 14 kills while holding Elms to just eight kills on 28 total attacks. The Cougars trailed 21-19 late in set four as Jacob Milnazik served for three straight points to put Kean back in front at 22-21 and forced the Blazers to call a timeout. After trading the next two points, kills by Ian Capp and Flor vaulted Kean into match point at 25-24. Acevedo committed an attack error on the very next serve and the Cougars survived.
Capp totaled 17 assists and nine digs, while Zach Gerken totaled 21 assists, seven digs, and two aces. Milnazik totaled six kills, while Steve Schrank collected nine digs. Jeremy Torres totaled 10 kills and five digs, while John Dunphy and Jovanny Torres combined for 36 assists in the loss.
Head Coach Charlie Ginex and the #7 Cougars will return to action in Jersey City, N.J. on Wednesday, Jan. 31st, against the Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University at 7:00 p.m.
