DANBURY, Conn. (4/26/18) - The Kean University men's volleyball team has three Cougars named to the Division III Men's Volleyball All-ECAC teams. Sophomore Ian Capp has been named to the first team, while seniors Shayron Taylor and Jared Warner have been named to the honorable mention.
Capp totaled 982 assists, 206 digs, 88 kills, 77 aces and 52 blocks in 107 sets over 34 matches. The Mechanicsburg native posted a 9.18 assists per set, 1.93 digs per set and 0.72 aces per set in 33 starts. The setter earned the CVC setter of the year and was the most valuable player in the conference tournament. On Monday, he was named a second team All-American by the AVCA. Capp becomes the third Cougar in program history to be named to the All-ECAC first team, joining Steve Valhalla (2013) and Bez Arslani (2014).
Taylor totaled 218 kills, 89 blocks, 49 digs and 11 aces in 102 sets over 36 matches. The Jersey City native posted a .449 hitting percentage with 2.14 kills per set in 32 starts. The middle blocker was named to the CVC first team after leading the conference in hitting percentage at .496.
Warner totaled 211 kills, 104 blocks, 79 digs, 15 solo blocks and 13 aces in 104 sets over 33 matches. The York native posted 2.03 kills per set, 1.00 blocks per set and a .459 hitting percentage in 31 starts. The middle blocker was named to the CVC first team after ranking second in the conference in hitting percentage at .445 and blocks per set at 1.03.
Kean posted a program record 34 wins with a 28 match winning streak and captured their seventh straight conference championship by winning the 2018 CVC championship. The Cougars advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals, where they bowed out to Vassar College, 3-1.
