UNION, N.J. (2/1/19)- Jake Milnazik totaled 11 kills and a .318 hitting percentage as the #10 Kean University men's volleyball team swept both #2 Stevens Institute of Technology and Neumann University in straight sets on Friday evening.
#10 Kean 3, #2 Stevens 0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-22)
In an AVCA top-10 battle, the Cougars (6-2) played with a fire and a chip on their shoulder as Kean stopped the Ducks (3-1) three game winning streak with a straight sets sweep. Kamil Garbowski totaled 15 kills and a .591 hitting percentage, while Milnazik chipped in with nine kills.
Kean posted a .321 hitting percentage and recorded above a .250 hitting percentage in all three sets. The Ducks committed 20 errors, while the Cougars tallied 12 total blocks and 16 blocks assists.
Garbowski totaled seven kills in the opening set as Kean closed on a 4-1 run that included two kills and a block assist from the senior. Kean dominated the middle set, opening with a 13-4 run and never looking back as Garbowski added another four kills to his match total.
The final set saw the Cougars post a .444 hitting percentage with five different players tallying at least two kills apiece. Kean held the advantage for most of the set, before Stevens made a furious comeback and cut the lead to 22-21. Garbowski would come up with a key kill and an ace to give Kean some breathing room at 24-21. After a Ducks point out of a timeout, Steven Zarzycki closed it out with a kill off an assist from Ian Capp.
Capp totaled 27 assists, four aces, three digs and two kills, while Zarzycki finished with four kills, six digs, and two blocks assist. Jonathan Meyer collected eight digs.
David Lehman and Dylan DeBoer combined for 22 kills for Stevens as the Ducks hit .146 for the match.
#10 Kean 3, Neumann 0 (25-8, 25-10, 25-16)
Kean (7-2, 1-0 CVC) opened CVC play with a dominating sweep over winless Neumann (0-3, 0-1 CVC). The backup players got most of the time in the straight sets sweep of the Knights. Maxwell Thompson, Duncan Beilke, Zach Lynne, Seth Russell, Zach Noll, Andrew Lukasiuk and Maxim Kostin all saw significant time.
The Cougars hit .434 for the match with 31 kills and 20 aces, while Neumann posted a .-122 hitting percentage with just seven kills. Kean hit over .290 in all three sets, including a staggering .733 hitting percentage in the opening set victory.
Belike finished with 18 assists, six kills, five aces, and three digs, while Noll totaled five kills and 10 assists.
Conner Kolek totaled four kills and four digs in the loss.
Head Coach Charlie Ginex and the Cougars will return to action in Huntingdon, Pa. on Friday Feb. 8th, against the Golden Eagles of Juniata College at 7:00 p.m.
