Six Cougars Named to NFCA East All-Region Teams

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (5/16/17) – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association recently released the East Region All-Region team that featured six members of the Kean University softball team.

Seniors Emily Sabo, Shannon McMahon and sophomore Caroline Ratti were named to the first-team while senior Dana Knapp and sophomores Jacqueline Riley and Cayleen Rizo garnered third-team accolades.

Sabo adds the recognition to many from this season as she was recently named the NCAA Union Regional Most Outstanding Player, New Jersey Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Year, First-Team All-NJAC and NFCA Top 10 Player of the Year Finalist.  Sabo is currently batting .516 with 40 runs scored, 11 doubles, two triples, two homeruns, 21 walks, 15 sacrifices and 24 stolen bases.  She is ninth nationally in batting average, seventh in on-base percentage (.588) and 13th in hits (66).

McMahon has powered to a 25-3 overall record this season with 26 complete games to her credit.  Nationally she is second in wins, 11th in shutouts (nine) and 19th in walks allowed (0.68).  McMahon was a second-team All-NJAC member and was named to the Union Regional All-Tournament team.

Ratti, a first-team All-NJAC member, has a team-high 43 runs scored and four homeruns with a team-best 32 stolen bases this season.  A Union Regional All-Tournament team member, she is 34th nationally in stolen bases and 18th in hit-by-pitch per game.

Knapp was named a second-team All-NJAC member and currently is batting .389 with 34 RBI with three homeruns.  She was recently named to the NCAA Union Regional All-Tournament team and eighth nationally in sacrifice flies with five. 

Riley has a team-best 14 doubles this season while contributing 34 RBI.  The second-team All-NJAC member is batting .358 while starting every game this season.

Rizo rounds out the selections as she leads the team in RBI with 38 and homers with four.  A Union Regional All-Tournament team member and second-team All-NJAC honoree she has started every game this season while batting .357.  She has collected 13 doubles and crossed the plate 30 times.
