Knapp, McMahon, Podgurski Earn CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors

Greenwood, Ind. (5/17/17) – Seniors Dana Knapp (softball), Shannon McMahon (softball) and Brock Podgurski (baseball) were all selected to the College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District teams.

The honor is the first for all three.  CoSIDA began the distinguished Academic All-America program in 1952, and since then, has honored thousands of deserving student-athletes from numerous sports across all divisions with these elite Academic All-America and All-District scholar-athlete honors.

To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution.  No student-athlete is eligible until he/she has completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility.

Podgurski finished his senior season tied as the team leader in batting average and triples and added 10 RBI and 23 runs scored.  Off the field Podgurski is sporting a 3.96 GPA while majoring in Finance.  He is graduating tomorrow Summa cum laude and is a member of Chi Alpha Sigma, Lambda Alpha Sigma, and Omicron Delta Epsilon honor societies.

McMahon is in the midst of her best season to date and is second in the nation with 25 wins this spring in the circle.  She has tossed nine shutouts and 26 complete games.  She was recently named to the first-team NFCA East All-Region team, second-team All-NJAC squad and selected to the NCAA Union Regional All-Tournament team.  In the classroom she has a 3.51 GPA while majoring in Secondary Education with a concentration in English.   She is a member of Chi Alpha Sigma and Lambda Alpha Sigma honor societies. 

Knapp has started every game this spring for the Union Regional softball team and has registered 11 doubles, three homeruns and 34 RBI.  She is batting .389 with 35 runs scored and has walked 18 times.  She was named to the second-team NFCA East All-Region squad, second-team All-NJAC team and NCAA Union Regional All-Tournament team.  Knapp is studying psychology with a 3.79 GPA and is graduation tomorrow magna cum laude.
