CENTER VALLEY, Pa. (4/12/18)- Cayleen Rizo went 3-for-8 with four RBI's, two doubles and one home run as the #18 Kean University softball team split a doubleheader with the Bulldogs of DeSales University on Thursday afternoon.
GAME 1: DeSales 9, Kean 4
Katie Debbie went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and a solo home run, while Olivia Zengel and Rizo each recorded a hit and an RBI as the Cougars (19-4) dropped the opener of the doubleheader to the Bulldogs (10-9).
Kean took a 2-1 lead with single runs in the third and fourth innings. Zengel doubled up the middle in the third to score Maria Bonfanti, while Kean capitalized on a muffed throw in the fourth. DeSales responded with six runs on six hits in the bottom of the fourth to regain the lead at 7-2.
Despite trailing five runs, Debbie and Rizo each smacked a solo home run to get two runs back before the final out was made. Debbie tallied the first home run of her career to left center in the sixth, while Rizo tallied her first home run of the season to left center in the seventh.
GAME 2: Kean 4, DeSales 2
Julie Raba went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while Rizo went 2-for-4 with three RBI's and Riley finished 2-for-4 as a late rally helped the Cougars (20-4) capture the nightcap of the doubleheader with DeSales (10-10).
Kean trailed 2-0 until the fifth when back-to-back RBI's from Rizo and Erin Hollyfield evened everything up at 2-2. Rizo doubled to left center to score Raba and Hollyfield singled to center field to score Zengel. The Cougars would take the lead for good in the sixth when Rizo tacked on two more RBI's with a double to right center to score both Zengel and Raba.
Kaitlin Stahlbrand, who improved to 8-2 overall, struck out three batters and was able to hold the Bulldogs with a 1-2-3 seventh inning.
Head Coach Margie Acker and the Cougars will return to action on Saturday, Apr. 14th, hosting the Pioneers of William Paterson University for a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
