Softball Remains Unbeaten at Spring Games

KISSIMMEE, Fla. (3/10/19)- The Kean University softball team remained unbeaten with defeats of Husson University and Thomas More University on the second day of the Spring Games in Kissimmee on Sunday.

Game 1: Kean 2, Husson 1 (8 Inn.)

Maddie Carlson went 1-for-1 and recorded both of the Cougars (7-1) RBI's in an extra-innings defeat of Husson University from Bangor, Maine. Caroline Ratti and Olivia Zengel were the only other Cougars to record hits in the one-run victory.

Kean took the 1-0 lead in the fourth when Carlson drove in pinch runner Tatiana Yourstone. Yourstone subbed in for starting pitcher Jacqueline Riley who walked to get on base. After the Eagles (1-2) leveled up everything at 1-1 in the fifth, the game would remain scoreless into the eighth.

Carlson would drive in the eventual winning run with a sacrifice fly that brought home Taryn DiGiacomo

DiGiacomo made a relief appearance and was credited with the win in the circle after striking out three batters and only allowing one hit in 3.2 innings pitched.

Game 2: Kean 2, Thomas More 0

Julie Raba went 2-for-3 with two RBI's as the Cougars (8-1) shutout Thomas More University from Kentucky. O. Zengel, Cayleen Rizo and Gabriella Fredette each tallied a hit as well in the victory.

Raba put Kean on the scoreboard in the first with an RBI single to right field that scored Ratti, who reached on an error to start the bottom half of the inning. The sophomore would go to opposite field in the fifth when she singled to the left field to score O. Zengel who singled up the middle to get on.

DiGiacomo would get her second victory of the afternoon with three strikeouts in a complete game victory.
