Softball Extends Winning Streak to Eight Games with Victories over Susquehanna and Ohio Wesleyan

KISSIMMEE, Fla. (3/13/19) – The #18 Kean University softball team extended their winning streak to eight games and remained unbeaten at the Spring Games with victories over Susquehanna and Ohio Wesleyan on Wednesday.

Game 1: #18 Kean 7, Susquehanna 3

Olivia Zengel went 2-for-3 with one RBI and a run scored, while Julie Raba finished 1-for-1 with three RBI's and two runs scored as the Cougars (11-1) won their seventh straight game with a four run victory over Susquehanna University.

Jacqueline Riley put Kean on the board with two runs in the first with an RBI that scored Caroline Ratti and Raba came home on a throwing error. The Riverhawks (3-5) made everything even at 2-2 with a two run homer in the second. Kean answered with five runs on six hits, including three RBI's from Raba and one from both Riley and O. Zengel. The Cougars took a commanding 5-2 lead into the fifth.

Susquehanna added another run in the fifth, but that would not make any difference in the final score as the Riverhawks only tallied one hit in the final two innings.

Taryn DiGiacomo improved to 7-1 in the circle with four strikeouts in the complete game victory.

Game 2: #18 Kean 8, Ohio Wesleyan 0 (5 Inn.)

Riley tossed a one-hit complete game victory with two strikeouts as the Cougars (12-1) remained a perfect 8-0 at the Spring Games with the shutout win over Ohio Wesleyan.

The senior had a perfect game going into the bottom of the fifth, when the Battling Bishops (1-4) doubled down the left field line to break up the perfect game bid. She remains undefeated at 4-0 in the circle.

Raba went 2-for-4 with two RBI's, while Maria Bonfanti went 2-for-2 with two RBI's and Skylar Hengeveld finished 1-for-1 with two RBI's. In addition, O. Zengel, Riley, Cayleen Rizo, Tatiana Yourstone all tallied two hits apiece as the Cougars collected 15 hits.

Kean led 1-0 entering the third, when the Cougars piled on four runs on five hits, including RBI's from Rizo, Hengeveld and Bonfanti. Kean increased their advantage to 5-0 entering the fourth. The Cougars added three insurance runs on five hits in the fifth.   

Head Coach Margie Acker and the Cougars will return to action on Friday, Mar. 15th, in the Spring Games against Westminster (Pa.) at 9:00 a.m. and UMass-Dartmouth at 11:45 a.m.
