Union, N.J. (3/23/19) – Caroline Ratti was 5-for-7 with three doubles and four RBI to lead the Kean University softball team to identical 8-0 wins over FDU-Florham on Saturday afternoon.
Game 1: Kean 8, FDU-Florham 0 (5 innings)
The Cougars (16-1) plated two runs in the first as Ratti got things started with a leadoff double. After swiping third she would come around to score on a sacrifice from Jacqueline Riley. Sarah Zengel followed with an RBI single, scoring her cousin Olivia Zengel, for a quick 2-0 lead.
The score would remain that way until the fourth when Kean scratched across a single run off the bat of O. Zengel with an RBI single, plating Gabriella Fredette who reached on a leadoff double.
Kean took the game in five innings with five runs in the bottom of the fifth, all of them unearned.
Taryn DiGiacomo improved to 9-1 after allowing just four hits on the day. She fanned four and walked no one.
O. Zengel, S. Zengel and Maria Bonfanti all finished with two hits while Ratti was 3-for-3 in the opener.
Game 2: Kean 8, FDU-Florham 0 (6 innings)
The Cougars scored seven runs early with two in the first and five more in the second. Highlighting the action was an RBI triple from Julie Raba in the first as well as a bases clearing double from Ratti in the second.
Cayleen Rizo provided the game-ender with a single down the line with one out in the bottom of the sixth, scoring Riley who reached on a single of her own.
Riley (6-0) earned the win in the circle as she tossed a two hitter with two walks and two strikeouts.
Offensively Raba, Riley, Rizo and Ratti all had two hits apiece.
