Ratti and Stahlbrand Homer as #9 Softball Sweeps Doubleheader with SUNY Cortland

UNION, N.J. (3/31/19) – Caroline Ratti and Kaitlin Stahlbrand both homer as the #9 Kean University softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader with SUNY Cortland on Sunday afternoon.

Game 1: Kean 3, Cortland 1

Stahlbrand went 1-for-2 with two RBI's, while Maria Bonfanti finished 1-for-1 with an RBI as the Cougars (19-3) rallied from an early one run deficit to beat the Dragons (7-7) in game one.

Kean trailed 1-0 entering the fourth after Cortland's Skyler Holt smacked a solo homerun in the second. Stahlbrand gave the Cougars a 2-1 lead with a two RBI single up the middle that scored Sarah Zengel and Tatiana Yourstone.  Kean would add another run in the sixth, when Grace Cofino scored on the throw after a sacrifice bunt from Bonfanti.

Jacqueline Riley struck out seven batters and improved to 8-1 in the circle.

Game 2: Kean 8, Cortland 0 (6 Inn.)

Stahlbrand and Ratti each tallied a homerun as the Cougars (20-3) scored eight runs on 13 hits in the game two shutout victory. Ratti finished 2-for-4 with three RBI's and a run scored, while S. Zengel went 2-for-4 with two RBI's.

Kean led 1-0 after Olivia Zengel earned a bases loaded RBI walk in the second. The Cougars added five runs on five hits in the fourth including a two-run homer from Ratti and a two RBI single from S. Zengel. Ratti collected her third RBI of the afternoon with a double down the left field line to score Gabriella Fredette.

Stahlbrand ended the game in the sixth with a solo homerun to left field. The senior also earned the complete game victory in the circle.

Head Coach Margie Acker and the Cougars will return to action on Tuesday, Apr. 2nd in Jersey City, N.J. against the Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University for a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
