#23 Softball Extends Conference Winning Streak to Six Games with Sweep of William Paterson

WAYNE, N.J. (4/16/19) – Caroline Ratti finished 7-for-8 with five RBI's and four runs scored as the #23 Kean University softball team extended their New Jersey Athletic Conference winning streak to six games with a doubleheader sweep of William Paterson University on Tuesday afternoon.

Kean 10, William Paterson 1 (6 Inn.)

Ratti went 4-for-5 with three RBI's and a run scored, while Cayleen Rizo and Gabriella Fredette both recorded two hits with two runs scored and an RBI in the game one victory.

The Cougars (27-5, 7-4 NJAC) and the Pioneers (16-13, 3-8 NJAC) each crossed the plate once before entering the top of the sixth.  Kean finally got the bats going as the Cougars scored nine runs on 11 hits to run away with game one.

Ratti and Julie Raba each tallied two RBI's, while Fredette, Olivia Zengel, Sarah Zengel, Rizo and Nicole Vassallo all recorded an RBI in the monster inning.

Jacqueline Riley struck out six batters in the complete game victory.   

Kean 13, William Paterson 0 (5 Inn.)

Ratti finished 3-for-3 with two RBI's and two runs scored, while Raba, Erin Hollyfield, Rizo and Fredette each tallied two hits apiece in the game two shutout victory over the Pioneers (16-14, 3-9 NJAC).  

The Cougars (28-5, 8-4 NJAC) scored 13 runs on 13 hits, including an eight run second inning. The Zengel cousins each tallied two RBI's, while Ratti, Raba, and Fredette each collected one.

Rizo went yard in the fifth with a shot down the left field line for her fifth homer of the season and the 13th of her career. That moves her into second place all-time with current graduate assistant Dana Knapp.

Taryn DiGiacomo struck out two batters in the complete game victory.    

Head Coach Margie Acker and the Cougars will return to action on Saturday, Apr. 20th, hosting the Red Hawks of Montclair State University for a senior day doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
