#16 Softball Locks Up Third Seed with Doubleheader Regular Season Finale Sweep of Ramapo

MAHWAH, N.J. (4/27/19) – Julie Raba finished 3-for-6 with a homerun, three RBI's, two runs scored and a double as the #16 Kean University softball team locked up the third seed in the upcoming New Jersey Athletic Conference tournament with a doubleheader sweep of Ramapo College on Saturday afternoon.

Kean 4, Ramapo 2

Raba went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI's as the Cougars (33-5, 13-4 NJAC) scored a single run in four different innings to take game one. Raba gave Kean the 1-0 lead with a homer in the top of the first. After the Roadrunners (22-11, 13-4 NJAC) answered in the bottom half of the inning, Raba put the Cougars back in front at 2-1 in the third with an RBI single up the middle that scored Katie Debbie.

The sophomore collected her third RBI of the contest in the fifth with a double down the left field line that drove in Olivia Zengel. Sarah Zengel capped off the Cougars scoring with a sacrifice fly in the seventh.

Jacqueline Riley improved to 15-1 in the circle with six strikeouts.

Kean 4, Ramapo 2 (8 Inn.)

Caroline Ratti, S. Zengel, Cayleen Rizo and Debbie all finished 2-for-4 as the Cougars (34-5, 14-4 NJAC) needed extra innings to complete the sweep of the Roadrunners (22-12, 13-5 NJAC).

Kean jumped out in front 2-0 with Ratti's ninth homerun of the season and the fourth of the week. Ramapo forced extra innings after scoring single runs in the fifth and seventh innings.

In the eighth, the Cougars picked up two runs with RBI singles by S. Zengel and Gabriella Fredette.

Taryn DiGiacomo struck out four batters and improved to 16-3 in the circle.

Head Coach Margie Acker and the Cougars will return to action on Tues. Apr. 30th, hosting the fourth seeded Ramapo College Roadrunners at 4:00 p.m.
