INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (5/6/19) – The #13 Kean University softball team earned their second selection in the last three seasons with an at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament. The Cougars were also named a host for the four team pod featuring the #9 Captains of Christopher Newport University, the Dolphins of the College of Staten Island and the Gulls of Endicott College.
The double-elimination tournament kicks off on Friday with Kean facing Endicott at 2:00 p.m. and CNU squaring off with CSI at 4:30 p.m.
Kean is 17-3 over the last month and reached the NJAC final after defeating nationally-ranked Rowan on Saturday. The Cougars (37-6) have currently collected the most wins under current Head Coach Margie Acker and will look to tie the program record when they take the field on Friday.
Endicott (32-5) won its 11th Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) title with a 10-0 victory over the University of New England on Sunday. Maggie Oram struck out seven batters and tossed a perfect game for the top seeded Gulls. Hayley Arduini hit two homeruns and posted four RBI's in the shutout victory.
CNU won the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) after winning back-to-back games in a best of three series with Mary Washington on Saturday. The Captains belted six homeruns and scored 18 times in 8-0 and 10-6 victories over the Eagles. CNU is making their 13th straight trip to the tournament under Head Coach Keith Parr.
CSI captured their seventh consecutive City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) title with a 9-6 victory over top seed Hunter College on Saturday. Jaclyn Kateridge was named tournament MVP, while Christina Cerverizzo and Alexa Venditti both went 2-for-3 with two RBI's and a run scored in the decision.
