DANBURY, Conn. (5/24/19) – Head Coach Margie Acker has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Softball Coach of the Year as the Kean University Softball team earned four All-ECAC selections. Caroline Ratti and Jacqueline Riley were both named to the first team, while Julie Raba and Olivia Zengel were selected to the honorable mention.
Acker earns her first Coach of the Year accolade for her career after guiding the Cougars to a single season record 39 wins and appearances in both the NJAC and NCAA Regional Finals. Kean boasted five All-NJAC selections, including one Player of the Year, four All-Region selections and two All-Americans. The Cougars rewrote the record book with single-season team records in batting average, hits, doubles, extra base hits, runs, stolen bases, walks and victories.
Ratti hit .405 with 64 hits, 58 runs scored, 45 RBI's, 33 stolen bases, 15 doubles, nine home runs and two triples in 47 games. The senior posted a .696 slugging percentage and a .492 on-base percentage as she was named to the All-Region, the NJAC Player of the Year and the Union Regional All-Tournament Team.
Riley hit .333 with 39 hits, 35 RBI's, 14 runs scored, five doubles and two home runs in 39 games. In the circle, the senior posted a 16-1 record with a 1.33 ERA, 71 strikeouts, 14 complete games, and two saves in 115.2 innings pitched over 22 appearances as she was named both an All-Region and an All-NJAC first team selection.
Yesterday, Ratti and Riley were both named NFCA All-Americans
Zengel hit .448 with 65 hits, 48 runs scored, 25 RBI's, 19 stolen bases and five doubles in 47 games. The senior posted a .483 slugging percentage and a .509 on-base percentage as she was named to the All-Region, All-NJAC and selected to the Union Regional All-Tournament Team. This is her second consecutive All-ECAC selection after being named to the honorable mention in 2018.
Raba hit .362 with 58 hits, 44 RBI's, 42 runs scored, 14 stolen bases, 12 doubles, one triple, and one home run. The sophomore posted a .469 slugging percentage and a .415 on-base percentage in 47 games as she was named an All-Region and All-NJAC selection.
