Union, N.J. (1/23/13) – Senior Erika Jones scored her eighth straight double-double as the Kean University women's basketball team topped Ramapo College, 70-60, Wednesday evening.
Jones poured in game-highs of 20 points, 24 rebounds and five blocks as Kean improved to 4-13 this season. Sophomore Alex Milne led the Roadrunners (14-5) with 15 points and seven rebounds.
In a see-saw first half, the Cougars used a basket at the buzzer to head into the locker room with a slim one point advantage (36-35). During the first 20 minutes, both teams battled to seven ties and three lead changes. Ramapo took their largest lead of the half (26-19) using a 10-0 run as Milne capped off the spurt with a bucket with 7:06 to go. Kean responded with their own run and tied things at 27-all on a layup from sophomore AnnaRose Pierre with 4:32 on the clock.
Jones (pictured left) already recorded a double-double in the first stanza as she tallied 12 points and 13 rebounds. Milne led Ramapo with 10 points in 18 minutes of action.
After trading advantages in the first four minutes of the second half, the Cougars took the lead for good with a layup from Jones with 16:20 to go (40-39). Kean stretched the lead to double-digits for the first time in the contest as sophomore Shay Collins picked up a fast-break layup with 11:25 to go (55-44). The Cougars maintained a comfortable lead for the remainder of the contest.
Collins finished with 10 points and four assists while Pierre registered 18 points and eight rebounds in the win. Sophomore Jackie Jerkovich tallied seven points, four assists and four steals for Ramapo.
Kean returns to action on Saturday when they host New Jersey City University at 1 p.m. while Ramapo heads to The College of New Jersey, same date and time.
