Bronx, N.Y. (12/29/14) – Rookie Najha Treadwell recorded her fourth double-double of the season as the Kean University women's basketball team dropped a 70-57 decision to Adrian College (Mich.) in the opening round of the 8th Annual Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament held at Lehman College.
With the loss, the Cougars (6-4) will square off against Shenandoah University on Tuesday at noon.
Kean was first to put points on the board as a basket from Treadwell and a trey from freshman Deserai Vazquez gave the Cougars a quick 5-0 lead. Sophomore Jaquetta Owens pushed the lead out to six with 15:24 to go off her own steal to give Kean what would be their largest lead of the game (14-8).
The Bulldogs (4-5) knotted the matchup at 16-all and took the lead with back-to-back three-pointers at the halfway point of the first-half. Adrian pushed that lead out to double digits in the closing minutes before the break. Treadwell lead the Cougars with seven points and 11 rebounds while Jordan York registered 11 first-half points for Adrian.
Kean closed the deficit to six points with a jumper from AnnaRose Pierre (pictured left) five minutes into the second period, but was not able to get any closer as Adrian pulled away.
Treadwell finished with 14 points and 16 rebounds with four blocks and three steals. Pierre tallied a game-high 16 points while Jazmine Davis added 12 rebounds, four steals, three assists and two blocks.
