EWING, N.J. (12/3/16) – Senior Jaquetta Owens hit a layup with 23 seconds remaining to break a 56-56 tie and deliver an NJAC victory over The College of New Jersey on Saturday afternoon in NJAC action. Marajiah Bacon dropped 37 points in the game and De'Mean Bond pulled down 10 rebounds in just 15 minutes on the floor.
The Cougars and Lions played tight all game; Kean dominated the first quarter 19-6 but TCNJ nearly erased the deficit by halftime with a 20-9 advantage in the second period. The second half was dead even, punctuated by 10 ties and eight lead changes in what was a wild win for the Cougars.
After Owens' layup, the Lions had 23 seconds to engineer a game-tying or potential game-winning shot on their final possession. TCNJ tried a three, but it clanged off the iron like 14 of their other 15 three-pointers on the afternoon. Bond grabbed the rebound to seal the win for the Cougars.
Owens finished with a whopping 13 assists in the game and also led the team with four steals. Marajiah Bacon (pictured left) finished 14-26 from the floor and 6-12 from behind the three-point line.
Jen Byrne led the Lions with a double-double; 17 points and 10 rebounds.
TCNJ is now 2-3 and 1-2 in the NJAC. Kean improved to 4-2 and 2-1 in the NJAC.
