Fourth Quarter Surge Sends TCNJ Past Women's Hoops

Union, N.J. (12/2/17) – The College of New Jersey finished the game on a 19-0 run as they pushed past the Kean University women's basketball team by the final of 58-42.

The Cougars were held scoreless in the final period (0-10, 0-5, 0-2) and fall to 3-3 overall and 1-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.

The Lions were led by Shannon Devitt who had a double-double 13 points and 17 rebounds as they improve to 5-1 this season and 3-0 in conference play.

It was a see-saw evenly matched first half as Kean held a 27-21 advantage going into the break as Marajiah Bacon led all scorers with 13 points, playing all 20 minutes.  The Cougars clung to that lead for the entire third quarter, leading by as many six as Bacon completed the three-point play with 3:22 to go in the period. Payce Lange ended the quarter with two free throws for what would be the final points of the day for Kean (42-39).

Kate O'Leary knotted the game up with a trey 15 seconds into the fourth quarter and the Lions took the lead for good as Nikki Schott added a layup 46 seconds later.

O'Leary finished with 14 points and five rebounds while Jen Byrne had a team-high 18 points with five boards as well.

Lorenzah Hammer collected 10 points and six rebounds with two blocks in the loss for Kean.

The Cougars return to action on Wendesday when they travel to New Jersey City University for a 6 p.m. matchup.
