Women's Basketball Powers Through in OT at Eastern

St. Davids, Pa. (12/16/17) – The Kean University women's basketball team powered through in overtime to defeat host Eastern University by the final of 79-72 on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.

Marajiah Bacon led all players with 41 points in 43 minutes of action as Kean improves to 6-3 on the season.  Taylor Price was one of four players in double figures for the Eagles who fall to 2-6 on the year.

The first quarter was a series of runs as the host jumped out to a 10 point advantage (14-4) thanks to a Regie Robinson layup.  The Cougars quickly turned the table and used three baskets from behind the arc during a 15-0 run to take their first lead of the day, 15-14.  Ma. Bacon had 14 of Kean's 17 first quarter points.

The battle ensued as it was a see-saw affair for the rest of regulation.  Eastern held a slight 29-27 lead at the break.  Between the second, third and fourth quarters the teams combined for 12 ties on the afternoon.

Both teams had an opportunity to break the 62-all deadlock in the final minute of regulation but Kean couldn't convert their free throw chance and Eastern's last shot missed, sending the game into overtime.

After one more tie at 64-64, the Cougars finally pushed ahead, taking the lead for good.  Kean held their largest lead of the day, 76-66, with points from the charity stripe from Lorenzah Hammer

Payce Lange added 13 points and six rebounds while Hammer finished with six points, 11 rebounds, and two blocks.  Miesha Bacon recorded seven points and eight rebounds in the win.

Kean enjoys a short break and will return to action on December 29th when they travel to the University of Texas at Dallas for the UT Dallas Classic.
