William Paterson's Fourth Quarter Rally Stuns Women's Basketball

Union, N.J. (1/5/19) – Senior Danielle Oakley registered a team-high 11 points while playing all 40 minutes as the Kean University women's basketball team dropped a 54-46 decision to visiting William Paterson University.

Julie Rovito had a double-double (13p, 10r) for the Pioneers who improve to 3-4 in the NJAC and 6-7 overall.

William Paterson pulled out to a six point lead after 10+ minutes of action before the Cougars (6-8, 3-4 NJAC) rolled off six straight points to knot the game at 20-all, aided by back-to-back layups from junior Payce Lange.  The game would remain stalled with that score for the next three minutes before Kean took their first lead of the day on a jumper from Oakley.  The Cougars would push the advantage out to seven, holding WP to just five second quarter points, with a 29-22 halftime score.

Kean stretched the lead to double-digits, the first double-digit advantage for either team in the contest, with 1:57 to go in the third quarter with a jumper from rookie Sarah Olivero (43-33).

The tide quickly changed over the next 11+ minutes as William Paterson went on a 21-3 run, holding Kean to 1-16 from the floor, 0-8 from the perimeter, while forcing seven turnovers.  CeCe Green led the charge with eight points in the span as WP shot just under 50%.

For the Cougars, Cindy Foresta tallied seven points and nine rebounds, including six offensive boards.  Olivero added eight points and seven rebounds in the loss.

Green finished with a game-high 15 points while Vianco Soriano registered 10 points and eight rebounds in the come-from-behind win.

Kean returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to Rowan University on Wednesday.
