King Collects Win #200 as Women's Hoops Tops NJCU

Union, N.J. (11/20/18) – Freshman Keidy Laureano poured in a double-double 20 points and 19 rebounds to lead the Kean University women's basketball team to a 77-46 win over New Jersey City University in the NJAC opener for both.

The win was also career win #200 for head coach Mandy King, who is in her seventh year in Union, N.J.

The first two periods were a tight affair as neither team was truly able to push out to a comfortable advantage.  Kean, who held a slight lead for most of the first 20 minutes as able to hit the double digit advantage with 4:12 to go in the second period with Laureano's layup (28-18). 

NJCU (0-3, 0-1 NJAC) responded and closed the quarter on a 12-5 run to pull within three at the break.

For the Gothic Knights, Marajiah Bacon had a team-best 12 points while Laureano collected 10 for Kean.

The Cougars then shutdown the Knights in the third quarter as NJCU was unable to register a basket (0-15).  Kean outscored NJCU, 20-5 in the period. 

Kean cruised in the fourth period as 13 members of the squad saw action.

In addition to Laureano, three other Cougars finished in double figures as Bre Spencer tallied 11, Danielle Oakley recorded 16 and Payce Lange added 14.   

The Cougars enjoy a short break and will return to NJAC action on Wednesday, November 28th when they head to Rutgers-Newark.
