Hot Second Half Shooting Downs Women’s Basketball Against Montclair State

UNION, N.J. (12/1/18) – Payce Lange finished with 17 points, seven rebounds and four steals as the Kean University women's basketball team dropped a New Jersey Athletic Conference contest to Montclair State University, 73-58 on Saturday afternoon.

Alex McKinnon totaled 19 points for the Red Hawks who improve to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in the NJAC. Keidy Laureano finished with nine points and nine rebounds for the Cougars who fall to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the NJAC.

Lange scored nine points and grabbed six boards in a fairly even first half, which saw Dayna Sclafani make two free throws with 49 seconds remaining as the Cougars held a 30-29 advantage at halftime. Danielle Oakley scored seven of her eight points in an opening stanza where the shooting percentages barely favored MSU.

The Red Hawks mashed the gas in the second half as they outscored Kean 21-10 in the third quarter and didn't look back. MSU shot 48.1% from the floor and 63.6% from downtown as the halftime lead disappeared for Kean and ballooned to as large as 65-43 with 5:19 in the fourth quarter.

Sarah Olivero added nine points and six rebounds.

Head Coach Mandy King and the Cougars will return to action in Mahwah, N.J. on Wednesday, Dec. 5th, against the Roadrunners of Ramapo College at 5:30 p.m.
