Mahwah, N.J. (12/5/18) – Senior Bre Spencer was one of three Cougars in double figures as the Kean University women's basketball team edged Ramapo College, 60-56.
Spencer finished with 10 points, seven rebounds and five steals in 30 minutes of action as Kean improved to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.
The contest was a see-saw affair, with neither team leading by more than single digits. In the end the Cougars led for just shy of 30 minutes of action as the game featured five ties and three lead changes.
The Cougars, who led by a slim one point advantage at the break, needed a 17-9 run in the third quarter to take their largest lead of the day, eight points. Spencer nailed a trey with 3:02 to go in the period to put Kean ahead, 40-32.
The Roadrunners (5-3, 1-3 NJAC) would cut the deficit to two midway through the fourth stanza on an Amber Sagan layup, but a three point basket by Casey Filiault gave the Cougars a little breathing room down the stretch.
Rookie Shannon McCoy finished with a team-high 12 points while adding six rebounds while fellow freshman Keidy Laureano ended the night with 10 rebounds. Senior Danielle Oakley contributed 10 points while Cindy Foresta added eight points and four rebounds off the bench.
The Cougars return home to face Rutgers-Camden on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
