Late Surge Sends Stockton Past Women's Basketball

Galloway, N.J. (12/12/18) – Senior Bre Spencer led the Cougars with 19 points but it wasn't enough as Stockton University used a strong surge over the final 14 minutes to edge Kean University by the final of 68-65.

Trailing 45-27 with just over four minutes to go in the third period, the Ospreys (2-8, 1-5 NJAC) took advantage of nine Cougar turnovers as well as 14 points from the charity stripe.  In total, Stockton outscored the Cougars (4-5, 3-3 NJAC), 41-22 during the stretch.  They were led by Emily Donzanti who collected 21 points in the final 14 minutes for a game-high 26 on the night.

Stockton took the lead for good with 1:52 to go in the fourth period as Natalie Miller nailed a trey to go up, 63-61. 

Kean led for most of the first half and pushed their advantage out to double-digits in the second stanza.  The Cougars headed into the break, up by 12, 31-19.  They pushed that lead out to as many as 18 in the third period before the late surge by Stockton.

Spencer added five rebounds and three steals while senior Danielle Oakley finished with 14 points, five rebounds, and four steals.  Rookie Shannon McCoy added 11 points and five rebounds.

The Cougars enjoy a short break before traveling to Florida to take part in the Daytona Beach Shootout on the 20th and 21st.
