Union, N.J. (3/19/14) – SUNY New Paltz picked up their third straight win by edging the Kean University women's lacrosse team by the final of 12-8 Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action.
New Paltz paced the early offense, scoring two quick goals in the contest's first six minutes. The Cougars got on the board as sophomore Samantha Gnapp's bouncer found the back of the net cutting the deficit to one. The teams traded goals over the next six minutes before the Hawks started to pull away with two goals in the final minute. Junior Carissa Citro notched her second goal of the day while senior Talia Teslor collected her second with just six ticks left in the period to put New Paltz ahead, 5-2 at the intermission.
Kean cut the deficit to two quickly out of halftime as senior Julie Knodt took a pass from Shelby Wallace, but that would be as close as the Cougars could get as the Hawk offense paced the remainder of the game.
Senior Carly Seidel led the Cougars with two goals on the afternoon while Citro and Tesler had game-highs of four goals apiece.
Kean returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Widener University for a 1 p.m. matchup.
