Strong Second Half Propels Women's Lacrosse Past USMMA

Union, N.J. (3/9/18) – The Kean University women's lacrosse team exploded for 13 second-half goals on their way to a 17-6 win over the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Friday afternoon.

Senior Emily Stasuk led the way with five goals while Morgan Graham provided four goals and two assists as Kean improved to 2-0 on the young season.

It was a back-and-forth affair in the early going with USMMA (1-1) taking their only lead of the day on a Grace McHugh tally with 22 minutes to go in the first half (2-1).  The Cougars responded with three straight to regain the lead for good.  Kean held a slight 4-3 advantage at the break.

The Cougars sprinted out of the gate in the second half, registering four straight in a seven minute span.  Danni LeSaint highlighted the spurt with two goals.

In total 20 players saw action for the Cougars.  Each keeper (Nikki Apostolopoulos and Hannah Gizzi) recorded 10 saves, respectively.  For USMMA, Jessica Reilly led the offense with a hat trick.

Kean heads down south  and will face Vassar College in Florida on Tuesday.
