Women’s Lacrosse Edges Past Stockton for first NJAC Victory

UNION, N.J. (4/14/18)- Emily Stasuk recorded a hat-trick as the Kean University women's lacrosse team edged out a 10-8 victory over Stockton University on Saturday afternoon. Nikki Apostolopoulos made nine saves for the Cougars who improve to 11-2 overall and 1-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Stevie Ader made nine saves for the Ospreys who fall to 8-5 overall and 1-2 in the NJAC.

The contest remained even in the first half with both sides notching four goals apiece. Kean would pull away towards halftime with three unanswered goals, including two from Danni LeSaint which gave the Cougars a 7-4 lead with just under four minutes remaining in the opening stanza.

Stockton responded with a goal just before halftime as Kean took a 7-5 lead into the locker room.

The Cougars took their halftime advantage and stretched it to 10-6 on back-to-back goals by Morgan Graham and Sarah Powers. The Ospreys made a late rally on two goals from Tamara Torales with less than five minutes to play but simply ran out of time as Kean notched their first conference victory.

Stasuk added four groundballs and two caused turnovers, while Apostolopoulos totaled six groundballs and two caused turnovers. Brittany Ballack finished with two points on a goal and an assist while tallying five draw controls.  Deb Razzino totaled four groundballs and Anna Tampellini nabbed three caused turnovers.

Head Coach B.J. Johnson and the Cougars will return to action on Tues. Apr. 17th, hosting the Roadrunners of Ramapo College at 4:00 p.m.
