Union, N.J. (2/23/19) – The University of Scranton used a balanced scoring attack on their way to a 13-5 win over the Kean University women's lacrosse team on Saturday afternoon.
In the season opener for the Cougars (0-1) Danni LeSaint was tops with three goals. Elena Gallo led all players with four goals in addition to an assist as Scranton improved to 2-0 on the season.
Kean was the first to strike as LeSaint netted a free position shot just under three minutes into the action. The Royals who tie things up and go ahead in the next six minutes with goals from Halle Conklin and Gallo before the Cougars tied it up one last time with 18:59 on the clock as Maddy Leigh scored her first of the year off a feed from Morgan Graham.
Scranton then rolled off six straight before intermission to take an 8-2 lead they would not relinquish.
The Cougars came out strong in the second half with two goals in the first 10 minutes as Dana Meehan and LeSaint made it 8-4, but the Royals put the game away with three straight top end the threat.
Jill Henson collected a hat trick for Scranton while Conklin added two goals, three draw controls and four groundballs.
For the Cougars, keeper Josie Pagano stopped 16 shots in the loss.
Kean will square off against Union College on next Saturday.
