St. Mary's City, Md. (3/9/19) – The Kean University women's lacrosse team battled back from an early hole but were not able to overcome that deficit in a 13-10 defeat to host St. Mary's College (Md.) on Saturday.
The Seahawks (3-2) raced out to a 6-0 lead spanning the first 25 minutes of action. The Cougars (0-3) responded by scoring three in the before heading into the break down 7-3.
Morgan Graham netted the first goal of the second period to close the gap to three, but St. Mary's used another string of goals, this time four, to widen the gap to 11-4. After trading goals it was Kean who used a burst down the stretch to cut the deficit to just two (12-10) in the closing seconds, but it wasn't enough to overcome the early disadvantage.
Graham led the Cougars with four goals and two assists. Katie Pileggi added three goals and one assist with three groundballs and one caused turnover.
Kean stays on the road and will face the University of Mary Washington on Tuesday.
