Women's Lacrosse Tops St. Joseph's-L.I.

Union, N.J. (3/15/19) – The Kean University women's lacrosse team used a balanced scoring attack to propel them to their first win of the season by defeating St. Joseph's College-Long Island by the final of 14-8 on Friday afternoon.

Katie Pileggi led the way with three goals for Kean (1-4).  Nicole Stoppelli provided three goals and two assists for the Golden Eagles (1-1) in the loss.

After falling behind 1-0, the Cougars scored five of the game's next six goals to take a lead they would not relinquish.  Pileggi tied things up and gave Kean the lead for good with goals two minutes apart.  Kean would go on to score two before the break (for an 8-4 lead) while adding three more after intermission for a five goal run.

Stoppelli cut the deficit to five on two occasions in the second half, but the Cougars balanced attack down the stretch would lead them to their first win of 2019.

Danni LeSaint and Dana Meehan each scored two goals and two assists in the win while LeSaint added five draw controls and four ground balls.  Josie Pagano stopped 12 shots.

For St. Joe's, Tori Staker registered two goals, give draw controls and two ground balls.

Kean returns to action on Tuesday when they host Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges at 3 p.m.
