Women's Lacrosse Falls to #11 Wesleyan

Middletown, Conn. (3/23/19) – The Kean University women's lacrosse team suffered am 18-7 defeat to #11 Wesleyan University (Conn.) on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.

Wesleyan (6-1) came out hot to start the game and jumped out to an early 5-0 lead with 24:33 on the clock.

Kean (1-6) got on the board 30 seconds later as Meghan Tillger dished it off to Katie Pileggi who ran straight towards the goal undefended.  After a goal by Pileggi, Wesleyan responded with a 3-0 run to go ahead 9-2 at the 14:49 mark.  The Cougars got within six with 13:21 on the clock before a 2-0 stretch by the Cardinals.  With 2:26 left in the first, Dana Meehan took advantage of a player-up opportunity for 11-4 halftime score.

The Cardinals continued to extend their lead in the second half. After a goal by Danni LeSaint just 1:46 into the half, Wesleyan responded with a 5-0 run to go ahead 16-5 with 21:11 to play, essentially putting the game out of reach.

LeSaint, Meehan and Taylor Nyberg each scored a goal for Kean. Emily Bretschneider led the defense with two caused turnovers and LeSaint led all players with six draw controls.  For the Cardinals, Abby Manning led all players with five goals on the day.

Kean returns to action when they travel to FDU-Florham on Wednesday.
