Glassboro, N.J. (4/6/19) – The Kean University women's lacrosse team was edged by Rowan University in NJAC action on Saturday afternoon by the final of 15-13.
The Cougars fall to 3-8 overall and 0-1 in conference play while the Profs improve to 6-4 this spring and 1-0 in the NJAC.
It was a neck-and-neck battle with neither team leading by more than four during the contest.
Kean jumped on the board first with two free position goals to take an early 2-0 lead. Rowan responded with three straight, including two from Taylor Gretz. The teams then see-sawed for the remainder of the first period as Rowan held a slim 7-6 advantage at the break.
Rowan outscored Kean 5-2 coming out of the intermission to push their advantage out to their largest of the day, 12-8. After trading goals (13-9), it was the Cougars turn to rally as Kean scored four straight, including two from Katie Pileggi to knot the game at 13-all with 8:55 to go.
That would be as close as the Cougars would get, however, as Rowan scored the go-ahead goal one minute later and added insurance with five minutes to go.
Danni LeSaint and Pileggi each had four goals in the loss as LeSaint registered five draw controls and Pileggi recorded seven draw controls and two caused turnovers.
Kean returns to NJAC action on Tuesday when they host Montclair State at 7 p.m.
