Women’s Lacrosse Falls in NJAC Home Opener to Montclair State

UNION, N.J. (4/9/19) –Taylor Nyberg tallied a hat-trick as the Kean University women's lacrosse team dropped their New Jersey Athletic Conference home opener to Montclair State University, 17-8 on Tuesday evening.

Four players tallied hat-tricks for the Red Hawks who improve to 6-7 overall and 1-1 in the NJAC. Meghan Tillger and Morgan Graham each recorded two goals apiece for the Cougars who fall to 3-9 overall and 0-2 in the NJAC.

Nyberg evened the game at 1-1 on a free position shot with 22:11 remaining. MSU proceeded to score seven straight goals and held an 8-1 advantage with just over 10 minutes remaining in the first half. Graham broke up the Red Hawks scoring with a goal off a Dana Meehan assist. Montclair State added two more goals to take a 10-2 lead into halftime.

The Cougars made things interesting in the second half, when Kean scored four goals in the first 10 minutes to cut the MSU lead to 11-6. Nyberg scored two, while Graham and Tillger each notched one. The Red Hawks answered with another five goals to push their advantage back to 16-6 with 7:54 remaining.

Danni LeSaint and Tillger each added a goal before the final buzzer went off.

LeSaint and Tillger each finished with three draw controls, while Emily Bretschneider and Lauren Munoz both collected three groundballs. Bretschneider also totaled two caused turnovers.  

Josie Pagano and Gabby Krug combined for 10 saves in 60 minutes of work between the pipes.

Head Coach B.J. Johnson and the Cougars will return to action in Galloway, N.J. on Saturday, Apr. 13th, against the Ospreys of Stockton University at 4:00 p.m.
