Vizoco's Hat Trick Propels Cougars, 4-0

UNION, N.J. (9/5/09) - Junior Randi Vizoco (Erial, N.J.) recorded a hat trick to lead the Kean University women's soccer team to a 4-0 victor over St. Joseph's College (L.I.) in the Cougar Classic on Saturday afternoon.

Vizoco (pictured right) scored the first three goals of the game in a 10-minute span in the second-half, breaking a scoreless tie and giving the Cougars (1-1) their first victory of the season in the home opener.

In the second game of the afternoon, Oneonta State defeated Muhlenberg College, 2-0 in the season opener for both teams.

Senior goalkeeper Dana Carney (Patchogue, N.Y.) kept the Golden Eagles (1-1) in the game for the first 67 minutes, as she finished with 22 saves for the game.

After a scoreless first half, junior Lara Kaminski (Rahway, N.J.) controlled the ball at midfield and delivered a pass upfield to rookie Teghan Pecherski (Middletown, N.J.), who flicked it over to Vizoco to score the game-winner at 67:09. 

Less than two minutes later, freshman Carly Seidel (Winslow Twp., N.J.) sent a cross from the left baseline that Pecherski headed over to Vizoco for the second-goal of the game.

In the 77th minute, Vizoco completed the hat trick when she knocked in Seidel's shot.  Seidel (pictured left) added her first career goal in the 86th minute, scoring on a breakaway off the assist from senior Jenna Godwin (Kingwood, N.J.).

The Cougars held a 34-3 advantage in shots and 9-0 edge in corner kicks.  Junior Leandra Russo (Galloway, N.J.) made one save in the shutout victory.

Oneonta State 2, Muhlenberg 0

Oneonta State took a 1-0 lead midway through the opening half when freshman Alicia Vollmer (Liverpool, N.Y.) took a cross from sophomore Dana DeSimone (Clifton Park, N.Y.) at 28:20. 

The Red Dragons tacked on the insurance goal in the final 10 minutes of the game, as junior Caitlin Burke (Manorville, N.Y.) scored on a deep shot that ricocheted off the crossbar and just crossed the goal line. 

In goal, Muhlenberg sophomore Michele Toher (Mahwah, N.J.) made four saves, as the Red Dragons held a 15-8 advantage in shots and a 6-4 edge in corner kicks.

Kean squares off against Oneonta State on Sunday, September 6, at 11 a.m., while Muhlenberg battles St. Joseph's at 2 p.m.
