Women's Soccer Picks Up Fourth Shutout in 2-0 Win Over Scranton

Union, N.J. (9/10/14) – The Kean University women's soccer team posted their fourth straight shutout to bring their win streak to five as they defeated the University of Scranton by the final of 2-0 Wednesday night.

Junior keeper KC Nunez tallied two saves on the night as she adds on to her shutout streak.  With the win Kean improves to 5-1 this fall as the Cougars were recently ranked 18th in the D3soccer.com Top 25 Poll.

After a scoreless first half, senior Sam Marchetti scored what would be the game-winner in the 52nd minute as she got just enough off a scrum in front of the net to put Kean on the board.

Sophomore Kayla Birth then added insurance at 75:23 as she broke past two defenders on a fast break down the middle and finished a ball lofted in by senior Shelby Pedersen (pictured left).

The Royals (2-3) held the advantage in shots (13-7) and corners (5-4) in the loss.

Kean heads to the road to face Manhattanville College on Saturday at 1 p.m. and then returns home to open up the NJAC slate on Saturday, September 20th at 5 p.m.
