Jersey City, N.J. (10/1/14) – The Kean University women's soccer team picked up their first NJAC win of the season by shutting down New Jersey City University by the final of 3-0 Wednesday afternoon.
The win breaks a three game skid for the Cougars (7-4, 1-3 NJAC) while the loss drops the Gothic Knights to 3-4-2 this fall and 0-3 in conference play.
After a scoreless first half, Kean pushed through as rookie Emily Jurcsek (pictured left) netted the game-winner off a miscommunication between a Knight defender and the keeper which left an empty net for Jurscek in the 70th minute. The combo of Deanna Columbia and Sam Marchetti added insurance as each assisted the other four minutes apart later in the half to give the Cougars a comfortable 3-0 margin.
Junior keeper KC Nunez made two stops in her sixth shutout of the season while Brittany Hoffman had 12 saves for NJCU as Kean held a commanding 29-5 advantage in shots.
The Cougars return home on Saturday when they host Rutgers-Camden at 7 p.m.
