Women's Soccer Falls to Western Connecticut

Danbury, Conn. (10/21/15) – The Kean University women's soccer team suffered a 2-0 setback to Western Connecticut State University in their final non-conference game of the season.

Junior Emily Newhard assisted on the game's first goal and scored the second to lead the Western.

At the 32:18 mark of the first half, Western got on the scoreboard when Newhard attacked the middle of the Kean defense at the top of the box, but passed to her left to senior Kelsey Chacho who had beaten the Cougar defense on the left side of the goal.  Chacho shot quickly, delivering the ball to the back of the net for a 1-0 Western lead.

At the half, Western held a 12-4 advantage in shots.

With four minutes played in the second half, senior Lisa Sanzari made a hard run on the right side with the ball before delivering a pass to the front of the goal.  The ball glanced off a Kean defender, but was quickly redirected into the goal by Newhard to push the Western lead to 2-0.

Western continued to limit the Kean (9-6-1) chances to generate any offense, holding the Cougars to only five shots in the second half.

For the game, Western (11-5-1) held a 29-9 advantage in shots, and also had a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.

Senior KC Nunez (pictured left) finished with 10 saves in a losing effort for Kean.
