Union, N.J. (10/31/15) – The Kean University women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss in the opening round of the New Jersey Athletic Conference tournament on Saturday afternoon.
The Cougars fall to 10-7-2 overall and must now wait until Monday, November 9th to see if they will receive a bid into the Eastern College Athletic Conference tournament.
With the win the Ospreys improve to 12-2-7 this fall and will now face #1 Rowan University on November 3rd in the semifinals. Rutgers-Newark stunned #3 Montclair State University in other first round action, 1-0, as the Scarlet Raiders will now travel to #2 The College of New Jersey.
The Cougars controlled most of the matchup but couldn't find the back of the net. Their best opportunity missed inches above the crossbar off the hard liner of Grace O'Brien in the 59th minute. The Cougars defense suffered a critical miscue in clearing Alexa Fama's cross in the box in the 75th minute and pushed the ball into the net for an own goal and what would be the only tally of the afternoon.
Kean held a 12-9 advantage in shots while the Ospreys posted a 3-1 edge in corner opportunities.
