Union, N.J. (9/22/18) – The Kean University women's soccer team suffered a 2-1 overtime defeat to visiting Rutgers-Camden on Saturday evening in New Jersey Athletic Conference action.
Ava Pizzaro netted the golden goal just a minute into the extra period when teammate Meghan Wachira lofted a breakaway ball down the right side of the field. Kean's keeper charged to intercept pass but the ball deflected off of her leaving a wide open net for Pizzaro to finish for the game-winner.
Pizzaro and Wachira connected for the game's first goal in the 60th minute as Wachira lined a bullet just under the crossbar.
The Cougars (2-3-3, 0-1-1 NJAC) tied things up with just over five minutes to go in regulation when Brittany Birth sailed a shot over the Scarlet Raptor (4-4-1, 1-0-1 NJAC) keeper off a pass from Carley Garlasco.
Kean dominated in shots (22-12) on the night while Rutgers-Camden held a 4-2 advantage in corner opportunities.
Mary Bystrycki recorded five saves on the night while Natalie Eberhardt finished with eight.
The Cougars will travel to New Jersey City University on Wednesday in their next NJAC matchup.
