UNION, N.J. (10/10/18) - A goal in each half propelled the Kean University women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Ramapo College on Wednesday evening.
Cori Dengel and Emily Bretschneider scored for the Cougars who improve to 4-5-4 overall and 2-2-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Gabrielle Gentilucci notched a goal for the Roadrunners who fall to 2-10 overall and 1-5 in the NJAC.
Kean opened the scoring on the evening, when Dengel scored on a Lexy Monroy corner kick in the 22nd minute. Monroy played a low ball past two Cougars and the senior ripped home the shot from inside the 18 yard box.
Kean increased their lead to 2-0 in the 63rd minute when Madison Krisanda played a through ball for a streaking Bretscheinder, who beat her defender and scored on the right side.
Ramapo answered the Cougars second half goal with a score in the 81st minute. Despite the goal, the Roadrunners couldn't get the game-tying goal and Kean notched their second conference victory of the season.
The Cougars edged Ramapo on shots (22-13) and corners (6-2). Sabrina Pascarella, Monroy, Brittany Birth and Mariaelena Torres all tallied three shots. Mary Bystrycki made six saves in just 45 minutes of work.
Head Coach Brian Doherty and the Cougars will return to action in Wayne, N.J. on Saturday, Oct. 13th, against the Pioneers of William Paterson at 1:00 p.m.
