Women's Soccer Upsets Stockton in NJAC Opening Round

Galloway, N.J. (10/27/18) – The senior trio of Carley Garlasco, Brittany Birth and Sabrina Pascarella netted the game's only goal as sixth seeded Kean University edged host #3 Stockton University, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon in cold, breezy conditions in the opening round of the NJAC Tournament.

Stockton (13-4-4) spent most of the first half in the offensive third as the Ospreys probed the Kean defense for an opening. Emily Frazee generated Stockton's two closest chances, one that was saved by Cougar (5-7-6) goalie Mary Bystrycki and a floater that just missed over the crossbar.

Kean struck 4:32 into the second half. Pascarella gained the end line and fed Birth, who volleyed the ball toward the goal where Garlasco tapped it in for the lone goal of the match. The Cougars' defense then frustrated Stockton for the next 40 minutes. Although the Ospreys tried 12 shots in the half, most were from long range or bad angles.

Bystrycki earned the shutout with eight saves for Kean.  Stockton goalkeeper Nicole Pallante made three saves in the loss.

In total the Ospreys outshot Kean, 20-5, while holding a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.

Kean will now travel to take on #2 Rowan University in semifinal action on Wednesday, October 31 at 6 p.m.
